Freedom of press in India is facing grave challenges as the Central government is bent upon suppressing criticism using criminal procedures according to Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan. He was inaugurating the National Conference of Senior Journalists organised by the Senior Journalist Forum Kerala.
Several journalists are facing criminal charges including treason for criticising the Central Government. The Media houses controlled by market interests keep silence on the issue even when their journalists are harassed by the Government.
While in Kerala media people enjoy freedom and face no criminal cases for criticising the Government-Pinarayi said.
Senior journalist Forum President Alexander Sam presided over the meeting. Forum General Secretary K. P. Vijayakumar, Reception committee Chairman John Mundakkayam and General Convener Kariam Ravi spoke on the occasion.
