Call for a massive protest at Jantarmantar on October 28
Indian Federation of Working Journalists (IFWJ) has been strengthened in Andhra Pradesh. With the merger of Andhra Pradesh Federation of Working Journalists (APFWJ) trade union with around 900 members into IFWJ, the federation has gained more strength in the state.
In the IFWJ 132nd National Council meetings held in Bodhgaya, Bihar from September 19 to 21, the problems faced by journalists across the country, security, welfare, exercise of rights, etc. were widely discussed. The representatives present from different states brought the situation in their states to the attention of the national leadership.
The meeting decided to take up phased movements for the rights, welfare and safety of journalists. It was decided to take forward the main demands of the national pension system, restoration of railway pass, establishment of media commission at the national level, law for the safety of journalists etc.
Massive protest at Jantarmantar on October 28
IFWJ has decided to organize a massive protest program at Jantarmantar, Delhi on October 28 as part of the movement’s activities for the resolution of journalists’ issues. The National Leadership has announced that this program will be undertaken on the occasion of the foundation day of the organization.
Later, it was decided to hold national council meetings in the states of Assam in November, Jharkhand in December and Karnataka in January, and take up joint movements on the issues of journalists in those areas.
The meeting demanded that the central government should implement the pension policy at the national level in view of the financial burden on the states, even though the provision of pension for journalists is in place in many states of the country.
Also Maharashtra,The meeting mentioned the legal measures taken regarding the safety of journalists in the states of Chhattisgarh. Similarly, a resolution was passed asking the central government to bring a special law for the safety of journalists at the national level.
Special focus on Andhra Pradesh
The national leadership has decided to give special attention to the state of Andhra Pradesh in southern India during the IFWJ Vajrotsavam. It suggested that activities should be created to further expand the organization in the state by coordinating the youth leadership and veterans.
On this occasion, Pedada Parameswara Rao, who continues to be a member of the National Working Committee, was unanimously elected as the National Secretary. Also, Iswara Rao, who is the president of Andhra Pradesh state, has been decided as a member of the National Working Committee.
State Vice President Malleswara Rao was proposed as a member of the National Federation. Bavana Srikanth was announced as a member of the National Council and Visveswara Rao (Nani) as a member of the State Council.
National Council meeting at Amaravati in 2027
The national leadership directed the state leadership to start preparations for holding the IFWJ National Council meeting in the month of May 2027 in Amaravati region of Andhra Pradesh.
The meeting decided to further strengthen IFWJ across the country for the rights, safety and welfare of journalists. In addition to strengthening the institutional structure by states, it called for united action to solve the problems of journalists.
IFWJ National President Gopal Mishra, National General Secretary Indu Kant Dixit and other national leaders participated in these meetings and gave direction on the rights, welfare and institutional strengthening of journalists.
